Break Your Dopamine Addiction: How And Why You Should Put Your Phone Down

I’ve been reading Dopamine Nation and it got me thinking.

You need to know the stuff in this book too.

So I created a podcast about it.

There is a lot of talk out there about dopamine detoxing,

How and why to do it, and the benefits.

As with most things on the internet, there are some pretty extreme examples and results on both sides of the issue,

but for this email and podcast,

let’s keep it simple.

Dopamine is a chemical in your body that helps you feel motivated

and experience pleasure.

Dopamine rewards you by making you feel good, so you’ll do that thing again.

As long as you’re getting those dopamine hits from positive things like eating healthy foods, sex, spending time outside without your phone, or connecting with friends,

you’re building great habits and finding happiness and fulfillment in your life.

But if you’re saturating your brain in dopamine in ways that numb out other feelings,

By mindlessly scrolling social media,

Waiting for likes, comments, follows, and shares,

Binging on junk food, romance novels, or anything else,

You’re making yourself feel worse.

Emotionally, the hard feelings are more intense and last longer.

Physically, you have more aches and pains.

So you circle back to your phone, the pantry, or whatever else feels good

to NOT feel the pain.

But each time, the scrolling, the eating, or whatever you use is less effective.

So it takes a little more.

Here’s the good news.

You can break these habits and reset your dopamine levels.

With time and dedication you can feel

peace, joy, happiness, and fulfillment without giving into the

urge to down more cookies and watch Reels.

Making simple habit changes like

- Creating routines- Swapping one feel-good habit for another- Taking care of your physical and mental health- And having more fun in new ways

Teaches you how to feel ALL of your emotions.

Your mind is clearer, you find joy in the little things like sunrises,

music, puppy snuggles, or the sunshine on your face.

You become more productive,

More creative, and

Have fewer cravings.

Coaching is all about creating replacement thoughts and actions to help you

feel better and enjoy your life more.

You can schedule a call with me HERE and learn why you’re

mindlessly scrolling, binging cookies and Netflix, or

why you’re stuck feeling so rotten.

By the end of your call, you’ll know

what will help you feel confident

believe that you can feel good and handle the hard stuff, and

know exactly how to get started getting dopamine in beneficial ways.
