You Don't Need Fixed - You Need Self-Acceptance

Last year when my anxiety amped up after years of feeling fantastic, I dove head-first into learning everything I could about why I started feeling anxious in the first place.

I listened to audiobooks and podcasts from therapists and psychiatrists.

I journaled page after page of questions and answers.

I meditated and tried to talk to my inner child to fix and heal the old wounds that had obviously decided to come back swinging.

And I got worse.

Until one day I finally realized I was doing exactly what I knew NOT to do,

using the thought that I was going to use my experience to help you feel better faster.

So here I am, sharing what @shanila.sattar shared on Threads so perfectly.

“Unpopular healer reality is that many folks get addicted to healing (aka always finding something to fix, improve, change)  Although self-inquiry is amazing , a constant state of “not good enoughness” is really a trap."

Let me be clear: all people have some trauma of some sort.

Some people have Trauma.

So if you’re like me and you don’t recall any specific trauma, it’s okay.

You don’t have to know exactly where your anxious trigger came from and you don’t have to fix yourself to feel better.

It's easy to fall into the trap of always trying to improve yourself.

To go after the next place you feel less than perfect or “damaged” - especially with the amount of information available about inner child work, healing, and self-awareness.

There’s another way that doesn’t require “fixing” and constantly improving yourself. It’s accepting yourself , exactly as you are, quirks, triggers, flaws, and all and loving yourself better.

It's about finding confidence in who you are right now and looking at what is already going well while you allow more things to go well.

It’s learning to feel confident and empowered exactly where you are right now, and to GROW those feelings and beliefs as you learn to let go of old thoughts and habits.

It sounds pretty amazing, doesn’t it?

P.S. Stop letting anxiety determine what you can and can’t do. You can decide now to change how your body feels and how you respond when you're anxious. Are you ready?

P.P.S. Be sure to check out Episode 84 of the More than Anxiety Podcast to hear more about why you should Stop Trying To Fix Yourself wherever you listen.
