Changing The Narrative: Age, Anxiety & Creating Purpose

If you notice you’re saying things like "I'm too old for this”

or if you feel a little anxious when you look in the mirror,

this is for you.

From the pressure to stay young and beautiful,

to the limit you put on yourself,

getting older can make you anxious and keep you

from living your life to the fullest.

It’s easy to look back and see everything that has changed

or what you think you’ve missed out on.

Your body might look and feel different.

You see all the things you thing you should have done by now,

what you never even tried,

and you feel like it’s too late.

So you criticize your face for it’s wrinkles,

your body for becoming soft.

You fight to stay young instead of loving yourself now,

and trash-talk yourself until everything feels impossible and sad.

So you quit trying new things and taking care of yourself.

I have a different perspective partially thanks to my cousin.

A year or two ago I saw her post on Facebook that she was at level 5.0!

She turned 50 that year and there was something about the way

she said level 5 that felt powerful.

It made me realize the impact that changing something as simple as a number can be on how we think and behave.

What you tell yourself becomes your truth.

Even if it’s only a story.

If you tell yourself you’re too old to go back to college,

you won’t go.

If you tell yourself you’re old and ugly,

you’ll feel old and ugly.

If you tell yourself you don’t have anything to contribute,

you won’t see all the incredible gifts and knowledge you’ve collected

over the years that other people NEED to know!

Coaching looks at what you’re thinking, finds the truth,

and helps you think differently so you can start the business,

go back to school,

take that vacation to Africa, or

fall in love again.

I’m challenging you this week to adopt the concept of "leveling up."

What can you do at a level 4.8 or a level 6.2

that you couldn’t do when you were a level 2.3?

By changing your perspective on aging and embracing your future,

you start to see all the opportunities that are available to you

that you haven’t done YET.

P.S. Your life beyond stress and anxiety begins with a decision. You can decide now to change how your body feels and how you respond when you're anxious, so anxiety loses its power. The question isn't, “Am I ready?” The question is, “Have I decided to be ready?” Ready is just one decision away. Talk to me about how I can help you make your decision a reality.

P.P.S. Be sure to check out Episode 64 of the More than Anxiety Podcast to hear more about Age, Anxiety & Creating Purpose wherever you listen. While you’re there, take a quick minute to leave a review and follow so you don’t miss a beat and help others find the podcast as well. Thanks!
