How To Break the Anxiety Loop

One of the biggest problems when you’re anxious

is trying really hard to stop being anxious.

Anxiety feels overwhelming and urgent,

and like you have to do something to make it stop.

You think you have to apologize for something you said or did

but you’re not sure what.

You have to say yes to everything then work until you’re exhausted

and burnt out so no one thinks you’re a slacker

And you double, triple, and quadruple-check your work so

no one thinks you’re incapable or stupid.

The more you think about everything that could go wrong,

or that might already be wrong,

The more anxious you feel.

You’re trapped in the anxiety loop,

and the more you try to stop it, the worse it gets.

To stop feeling anxious, you have to learn to ignore what you think,

and go back to how you feel.

I know this might seem crazy, but,

when you’re anxious, the last thing you need to do is

believe what you think

And yes, your brain is going to keep thinking.

Telling you to say yes when you want to say no.

That you should ask someone else if you’re okay.

And pushing you to keep editing that email until it is perfect.

Knowing how your body feels when you’re anxious is your exit ramp,

out of the anxiety loop.

That feeling as an alarm,

telling you not to listen to your thoughts,

but to take care of your body first.

we start by learning how your body feels.

You’ll learn to trust yourself.

You’ll stop letting anxiety decide what you do and don’t do

so you can choose what you know is right and want to do instead.

You’ll have more freedom, a calm body, a clear mind,

and a lot more fun.

P.S. Your life beyond stress and anxiety begins with a decision. You can decide now to change how your body feels and how you respond when you're anxious, so anxiety loses its power. The question isn't, “Am I ready?” The question is, “Have I decided to be ready?”
