Feeling Anxious and Out of Control At Work In The Time of AI, Layoffs, and Changes.

It seems like lately everyone is talking about how out of control things seem.

AI, Layoffs, Changes...

And don't forget the political climate, the actual climate, and the economy.

It can get really overwhelming.

I was coaching someone recently on the future of her job and her industry

in the age of tech and AI.

She has worked hard to get where she is and loves her job.

But her profession and industry are changing and

She said everything feels

unpredictable, out of control, and unstable.

When things start to feel any of those things, it doesn’t take long for your brain to start coming up with problems to solve.

As we talked, she told me there was so much that was out of her control at work that she didn’t know how to get in a good headspace about it.

I asked her to tell me all the thoughts she had about what was going on.

She had at least 20 about her industry and it’s future but one thought in particular stood out to me.

I know my contract will be renewed, but” .................

And she continued to tell me all the things she was thinking

until I stopped her.

She had skipped right over her own job security

and was anxious about her entire profession.

I read the list of thoughts she shared with me and asked her to notice how she feels when she thinks those thoughts.

Your thoughts create your feelings.

She said she felt anxious, frustrated, helpless, trapped… so I asked her what she did when she felt those feelings.

She said she trys to control and fix things.

Your feelings create your actions.

Next, I asked her how she felt when she thought

“I know my contract will be renewed but…..”

and she chuckled.

She told me that thought was true and it felt certain.

When we paused to look at that thought,

and to feel certainty about her job,

her anxiety went away.

Your actions create your results.

Instead of trying to control an entire industry,

She only needed to and only could

control her thoughts, her attitude, and her actions.

By the end of the hour, she was relaxed about her job,

and feeling confident that she could deal with whatever might

come up in the future.

Instead of trying to control an entire industry,

She only needed and only could control herself,

what she thought about, and how she reacted.

Just like her, YOU ARE ONLY 1 THOUGHT AWAY from an entirely different

feeling, experience, and outlook.

You’re ready, my friend.

P.S. Stop letting anxiety determine what you can and can’t do. You can decide now to change how your body feels and how you respond when you're anxious. Are you ready?
