Managing Holiday Stress and Anxiety

Happy Thanksgiving week to my American friends.

I hope your holiday season is kicking off with fun and family.

After all, you’re supposed to be thankful and jolly.

But what if you’re not?

If you’re already anxious and stressed,

Juggling home and work,

planning menus and preparing food,

trying to make everyone else’s holiday magic,

and stretching yourself to the max,

You might be dreading the entire season!

Instead of saying yes to the celebrations you want to attend,

you find reasons to stay home or skip out because it feels like too much.

Or, you decide to go so you don’t hurt anyone’s feelings,

but you’re exhausted and overwhelmed.

So you drink too much,

eat until you’re stuffed, and

feel awful the next day.

And when you feel awful the next day,

it only makes you feel worse.

Before you know it, you’re more stressed and more anxious,

and find yourself wishing the whole season would just end already!

There are some simple things you can do to help you manage

holiday stress and anxiety that will help you now

and all year long.

🎁 Taking the time each day to practice mindfulness,

🎁 Sticking to your daily routines like

moving your body, drinking water, eating healthy, and going to bed on time,

🎁 Writing your plans on paper and getting them out of your head, and

🎁 Setting and holding boudaries for youself and others

Help keep your energy and spirits up,

and your stress and anxiety hormones down.

When you take care of yourself, you have more to give

to your family and friends.

You enjoy get togethers because you haven’t burnt the candle at both ends.

You’re in control of your emotions, and

you notice more JOY and less chaos.

I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving and a wonderful 2023 holiday season.

P.S. Your life beyond stress and anxiety begins with a decision. You can decide now to change how your body feels and how you respond when you're anxious, so anxiety loses its power. The question isn't, “Am I ready?” The question is, “Have I decided to be ready?” Ready is just one decision away. Talk to me about how I can help you make your decision a reality.

P.P.S. Be sure to check out Episode 63 of the More than Anxiety Podcast to hear more about Managing Holiday Stress And Anxiety wherever you listen. While you’re there, take a quick minute to leave a review and follow so you don’t miss a beat and help others find the podcast as well. Thanks!
